P.I. Sandi Webster’s menopausal mother wants her to solve a century-old murder. Her mother’s attitude causes armed and dangerous Sandi to feel like a gibbering child. Oblivious to her effect on her daughter, Livvie entices Sandi’s cooperation with the story of a lost treasure.

In the meantime, a woman needs Sandi and her partner, Pete, to protect her from a stalker.

Can Sandi solve the murder and find the treasure before someone takes her life? Can she and her partner keep their client from harm with her interfering mother adding her two cents?

Sandi has more than a few surprises waiting for her.

A Well-Kept Family Secret (A Sandi Webstery Mystery)
A Well-Kept Family Secret by Marja McGraw

Readable readable readable. Kinda like when I was reading the novel. Just read on and on and on into the wee hours of the morning. Even my wife's chastising could not draw me away. Only drooping eyelids and a desperate need for sleep prevailed.

Sandra Webster, generally referred to as Sandi, and her PI partner Pete Goldberg, thought a visit by Sandi's mother---Livvie---might be endured if it didn't last too long. What Sandi wasn't prepared for was menopausal mood swings in her mother---and her mother's new boyfriend Frank.

Oh, Sandi's father was long dead, but this was a side of her mother Sandi never knew existed. Nor her mother's demand that Sandi solve a hundred year old mystery. Add to that family rumors of hidden treasure and you have the makings of a fascinating mystery.

I won't spoil the conclusion by telling you whether the murder was ever solved, nor whether there really was a treasure trove of gold as rumored.

What I will tell you is that Marja has not only a writing skill to envy, but a vivid imagination that included character delineation [Stanley is a delightful example], plot swings, and creative subplots.

One approach had scenes from approximately 100 year previously intertwined with Sandi's present day investigations. Another was her use of Sandi's PI business to introduce unrelated/related cases to the major plot.

If you think my review is screwy, wait until you read A Well-Kept Family Secret. It's a good 5-star read.

A WellKept Family Secret The Sandi Webster Mysteries Book 1 edition by Marja McGraw Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Great characters, great plot, a bit of humor and romance make this book an outstanding read. I couldn't put it down until I finished. "A Well-Kept Family Secret" is an excellent book I highly recommend.
I have read several of the Sandi Webster mysteries and have loved every one of them. The book keeps you excited to read more. The only negative I can see is that each book has somewhat of a similar plot except using different characters.
I don't normally like a book with flash-backs, especially flash-backs from another century, but this author pulled it off. I enjoyed every page, flash-backs included. It was indeed a Well Kept Family Secret. Good characters, good story and one you should all enjoy. Give it a try.
And what a family secret this book is based upon. Author has captured her story with clarity, intrigue & oh yes that bit of humor she is noted for keeping light but readable. Sandi Webster is your not so typical private investigator who captures your attention with her wit & charm.
This is one in a series of books written by Marja McGraw and I have to say that when I want to rest and relax with a great book, hers are the ones I enjoy reading the most. This book was no exception and I simply couldn't put it down. When I finally had to, I couldn't wait to get back to it again. Great book and one that I highly recommend as a wonderful read.

Author of WE ARE DIFFERENT NOW
This is a new author for me. I laughed, shook my head, and bit my nails by turns. This book is a good introduction to an author with a lot of promise. There is a good mystery to pull you along as you meet the family, the boyfriend/partner and assorted good people. The locale is handled well, the suspense maintained, with relief via Mom's changing moods as she fights her hot flashes. Take a chance p. this author and enjoy!
A great cast of characters and a well-crafted mystery set the stage for this terrific read. There are actually two stories--one a century-old murder, the other a contemporary tale--converging in a highly satisfying conclusion.

Writing two different time lines can be tricky, but the author handles it beautifully. I don't often read mysteries with a private investigator as the main character, but Sandi Webster is endearing, and downright funny at times. She's surrounded by quirky relatives and friends, all of whom want to be involved in the investigation.

This is the first in what I hope will be a long-running series. I already have book #2 on my "must read" list, and eager to see what Sandi and friends get up to next.
